LeBron James’ mother recently took to the LJFF Instagram page expressing her immense pride in her son’s athletic achievements while sporting an L.A. Lakers t-shirt. The video showcased the I Promise program, which has been providing life-altering support to youth and their families in Akron since 2011. LeBron has always had a desire to give back to his community, even before winning an NBA championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Named after the promise that James and the kids make to themselves, their families, and their community, the LJFF I Promise Program has grown significantly over the years. It now offers various supportive services such as transitional housing, long-term housing, a health center, and a job-training and community center. James’ mother considers it the best part of it all and promises that more good works are yet to come.

LeBron James’ mother recently expressed her immense pride in her son’s accomplishments, emphasizing that there are truly no limits to what he can achieve. This sentiment was shared by the Akron community and students of the I Promise program, who proclaimed February 8th as LeBron James Day. The I Promise initiative is comprised of the I Promise School, which provides education for children facing adversity, as well as various programs within schools across the Akron Public Schools District. Students who meet certain academic and community service goals are eligible to receive a four-year college scholarship. The foundation also offers additional support programs, such as the I Promise Too program for parents of active students who wish to obtain their GED. Soon, House Three Thirty, a center dedicated to education, job training, and community gatherings, will open its doors. The foundation is also in the process of launching the I Promise HealthQuarters, a primary-care health center available to both program participants and the Akron community.
