Did you catch sight of the photos of renowned basketball player LeBron James donning a pink attire, supposedly gracing the debut of the latest Barbie movie? These images have gained immense popularity this week, circulating across various social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Nonetheless, it is important to note that these photos are completely fabricated.
Sometimes, the photos of LeBron James also feature some additional items, such as a pretty pink purse, and are often captioned with something like “LeBron James in the Barbie film.” One particular photo even shows him wearing a pink skirt, but it’s not quite the same shade as the typical pink color – it’s more of a beige or neutral tone. However, it’s important to note that these pictures are not actually real and were created using AI tools like MidJourney or DALL-E. It’s currently unclear which specific AI tool was used for the fake images of James that have been circulating on social media.
A post containing a bogus photograph of James has gained immense popularity on Facebook, with over 260,000 views. Even Politifact, an organization that checks political statements, took notice of the image. Politifact pointed out that some of the phony photos of James had fingers that were disproportionally large and seemed “alien-like.” This suggests that AI technology is still having trouble creating convincing images of fingers for fake social media posts.
Greta Gerwig’s latest directorial venture, featuring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is a unique take on the iconic doll Barbie. The movie is a blend of appreciation and criticism towards the famous toy’s history. It has already garnered an impressive $200 million in box office collections for Warner Bros.
