LeBron James, the superstar of the Lakers, has always been vocal about his desire to play alongside his oldest son, Bronny James, in the NBA, no matter which team he joins. Currently, Bronny and his younger brother Bryce James are honing their basketball skills at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles. Bronny is set to graduate this year, while Bryce will be a sophomore. 247 Sports reports that some of the top colleges, such as Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, and North Carolina, are interested in recruiting Bronny. Until his son joins the NBA, LeBron is looking forward to experiencing other memorable moments with his kids. Recently, he was able to tick off one item from his bucket list when he watched Bronny and Bryce play together in a competitive basketball game for the first time. The brothers played for Team Strive for Greatness in the EYBL, and Bryce’s impressive skills, pace, and precise three-point shooting from the corners caught everyone’s attention.
The question on everyone’s mind is whether James will remain in Los Angeles. He has the opportunity to sign a lucrative two-year, $97 million extension with the Lakers, but he has until June 30, 2023, to make a decision. Failure to do so would result in him becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer. Despite the Lakers’ disappointing performance in the playoffs last season and their absence from the playoffs altogether in the previous season, NBA insider Marc Stein reported on Substack on July 29 that James is “extremely happy” in Los Angeles. “Sources briefed on the matter stress that James is extremely happy in Los Angeles despite the Lakers’ back-to-back rocky seasons. He and his family, by all accounts, have grown increasingly entrenched in Southern California since James signed with the Lakers in the summer of 2018,” Stein wrote. James had impressive stats last season, averaging 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.2 assists in 56 games over 37.2 minutes. However, the Lakers only won 33 games against 49 losses and failed to qualify for the play-in tournament. The Lakers are hopeful that their new head coach, Darvin Ham, a healthy Anthony Davis, and younger role players will assist James in taking them back to the playoffs.
